Role Descriptions

Grandfather

Character Age: 65

Gender: Male

Vocal Type: Baritone (“Jingle Bell Rock” - Bobby Helms)

Ethnicity: Open to all

Character Breakdown: Grandfather is our secondary protagonist who leads his granddaughter, Noelle, through our story. He loves Christmas and spreading Christmas joy and magic - so much so that one might even suspect he is actually Santa Claus himself! He is a jolly old soul, but is also wise enough to recognize that Noelle has to discover her love for Christmas on her own- and he lets her pave her own way. Warm, friendly and kind.

Noelle

Character Age: 12-16 (Performer Must be 18+)

Gender: Female

Vocal Type: Mezzo Soprano (Sings portions of all songs)

Ethnicity: Open to all

Character Breakdown: Noelle is the protagonist and heart of our story. She is the one journeying through New York City to learn about the wonders of Christmas, and is the one who convinces the Grinch that Christmas is worth celebrating. She is naive, curious, sweet and caring - and shares similarities to the character Cindy-Lou Who. She should represent all children and their experiences learning about holiday magic and joy.

The Grinch

Character Age: 20-50

Gender: Male

Vocal Type: Baritone (“You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch” - Tyler, The Creator)

Ethnicity: Open to all

Character Breakdown: The Grinch is the antagonist of our story. He is the classic, mean spirited Grinch we all know and love - and in this story he experiences a similar change in character as he does in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. We hit the same beats as that story - with him learning to love Christmas through spending time with a child and seeing the joy of Christmas through her eyes. He is crude, rude and cranky - until the end, where his heart grows three times its size!

NOTE: Performer should have dance/movement experience, comfortable in jazz technique to dance alongside chorus dancers. Please submit both a vocal video AND Dance reel with audition submission.

Clark Griswold

Character Age: 30

Gender: Male

Vocal Type: Baritone/Tenor (“Santa Clause is Coming to Town” - Bruce Springstein)

Ethnicity: Open to all

Character Breakdown: Clark Griswold is a comedic supporting character in our story - who helps Noelle show the Grinch the joy of Christmas. He is quirky, silly and just like Clark Grisworld from Family Vacation - he is a loveable goofball dad at the end of the day. He is funny, fatherly and family oriented. But with our version of this character - he is also a rockstar just like Bruce Springsteen!

Kevin McCallister & Others (Extra)

Character Age: 12-16 (Actor Must Be 18+)

Gender: Male

Vocal Type: Open to all

Ethnicity: Open to all

Character Breakdown: Similar to Buddy the Elf, Kevin is helping to collect Christmas present donations when the Grinch comes and steals them! He is the same smart mouthed and clever kid we all know from Home Alone, and often relates to Noelle as the only other child on this journey.

Backup Dancers

5 slots open

Character Age: Open to all
Gender: Open to all
Ethnicity: Open to all
Character Breakdown: Dancer should be proficient in ballet and jazz techniques, as well as dancing in heels (8-10+ years of experience training in these classical styles). Dancer should be able to retain choreography quickly and adapt to performing in a non-traditional proscenium stage. Dancer should have experience in theater and can portray a range of emotions to aid in storytelling. Dancer should be willing to sing background/ensemble vocals (vocal audition not necessary).

Harry Lime & Others (Extra)

Character Age: 25-45

Gender: Male

Vocal Type: Open to all

Ethnicity: Open to all

Character Breakdown: Less mean spirited than the Harry Lime and Marv Murchins that we know from Home Alone and Home Alone 2 - these versions of the characters are still jerks, but aren’t outright villains. They’re more so just punks that Kevin has pulled along to help collect presents for the less fortunate - they join our heroes on the journey to stop the Grinch!

Buddy the Elf & Others (Extra)

Character Age: 17-30

Gender: Male

Vocal Type: Open to all

Ethnicity: Open to all

Character Breakdown: Just like Buddy the Elf in the movie Elf - Buddy just wants to spread Christmas cheer by singing loud for all to hear! Him and our other extras support Noelle and Grandfather throughout their journey- as they help to stop the Grinch and save the Christmas presents for all of the less fortunate boys and girls around the world! Comedic, over the top, and bursting with positivity and love!

 Marv Murchins & Others (Extra)

Character Age: 25-45

Gender: Male

Vocal Type: Open to all

Ethnicity: Open to all

Character Breakdown: Less mean spirited than the Harry Lime and Marv Murchins that we know from Home Alone and Home Alone 2 - these versions of the characters are still jerks, but aren’t outright villains. They’re more so just punks that Kevin has pulled along to help collect presents for the less fortunate - they join our heroes on the journey to stop the Grinch!
